Spam, reachability and conversion among older adults
How to analyze unsuccessful calls while distinguishing reputation, devices, consent and business performance. The contextual figures below do not measure campaigns run by HUHU customers.

What this analysis can establish
A number can show different reputation signals across sources. An unanswered call alone does not establish the cause. Compare reputation observations with telephone logs and the contact journey, retaining the context of each test.
This page does not have a panel measuring answer rates among people over 55 or a controlled carrier comparison. It cannot establish a universal conversion rate.

Two contextual indicators: 91% of people aged 12 and over owned a smartphone in 2024 according to the 2025 Barometer; health insurance contributions reached €46.8 billion in 2024 according to France Assureurs. Both populations extend beyond older adults.
The Hiya report covers its observed network. It does not measure conversion in senior health insurance or the share of your business calls that will be filtered. Our statistics page explains the French indicators and denominators.
Read the statistics and their limitationsDevices: avoid extrapolating an age group
Owning a smartphone does not mean spam protection is enabled. An overall ownership figure cannot establish brand shares, filter activation or the behavior of people aged 55–59, 60–64 or 80 and above. To segment a campaign, use only information collected for that purpose and document group sizes.
Separate the causes of an unsuccessful call
- Network: compare result codes and carrier routes. Ask your telephone provider to explain failures and available authentication information.
- Device: record the model, settings and apps on a test phone, with its user’s agreement. A test on one device does not describe a whole population.
- Reputation: record the source, date and observed label. A spam label, authentication and displayed name answer different questions.
- Relationship: check that the contact expects the call, understands its context and has their choices respected.
Calculation example: two hypothetical scenarios
Every value in this table is a teaching assumption. None comes from Hiya, Arcep or a customer measurement. The columns do not isolate a causal effect of spam labeling.
| Step | A | B |
|---|---|---|
| Calls placed | 10,000 | 10,000 |
| Calls connected | 9,000 | 6,000 |
| Useful conversations | 3,000 | 400 |
| Conversions | 1,500 | 200 |
Under these assumptions, conversions ÷ calls placed gives 15% for A and 2% for B. To use this calculation, replace every value with your own observations and explain the differences between groups.
French context as of October 31, 2026
Since August 11, 2026, consumer telephone marketing generally requires prior consent. Limited exceptions exist, including solicitations related to an ongoing contract. Check sector-specific and other situations in the official guidance; a number’s reputation does not authorize a call.

Start with a question: a network issue, an observed label or fewer useful conversations. Choose a period and comparable groups. Record lead sources, time slots, attempts and contact context. Log routing corrections, reports to providers and changes in calling practices separately.
Reputation monitoring helps date a signal and start an investigation. It does not guarantee label removal, call delivery or a quantified revenue improvement.
